Some of the most successful public art projects in Toronto are temporary. Art programming in public spaces allows visitors to engage with places in new and exciting ways. Temporary projects also provide opportunities for early career artists to gain experience that could help them produce more substantial work for the public realm in the future. Some programs offer a chance for visitors to participate in the arts which can improve their sense of community and their awareness of the culture and heritage in their city (City of Toronto, 2019).

Nuit Blanche is an annual one-night event organized by the City of Toronto. Since its first rendition in 2005, Nuit Blanche has become one of the largest public art events in North America with tens of thousands of visitors. Different neighbourhoods around the city are transformed by temporary public art works. From sundown to sunrise, the people of Toronto explore their city and gain a completely new perspective.
